Year 4 tutoring sessions start in September each year.
These sessions focus on refining key skills in literacy and mathematics, building strong foundations throughout the year. The aim is to ensure that pupils feel confident and well-equipped to tackle the new topics they will encounter.
In English, we focus on building reading comprehension skills, specifically data retrieval, inference and prediction. Pupils engage in activities that encourage them to understand and develop their vocabulary, grammar and punctuation, and practise their spelling skills. Additionally, we delve into writing for different purposes, allowing children to plan, draft, and edit stories, reports, letters and poetry.
For Mathematics, we work on reinforcing the concepts they are learning in school, including place value, addition and subtraction techniques, multiplication & division, times tables, and understanding fractions and decimals, as well as measurement (length, mass, time, volume), perimeter, area (basic introduction), geometry (shapes, angles, symmetry), and basic data interpretation (charts, bar graphs). We provide structured guidance in using formal written methods and tackling word problems, ensuring that pupils are comfortable with mathematical reasoning. We also introduce reasoning skills with simple exercises in Verbal, Non-Verbal and Spatial Reasoning.
The workshops will run for 2 and a half hours on alternate Sunday mornings from 10.00am or afternoons from 1.30pm at our teaching centre in Laddingford (Post code ME18 6DA).
The cost of each workshop is £45.00, payable by bank transfer or cash on the day.
The first workshop, on Sunday 13th September 2026, is free for all children, with no obligation to commit.
